Messages from leadership

Global sustainability and corporate responsibility

As we expand our global footprint, our responsibility as stewards focused on sustainability and health equity grows exponentially. Our shared purpose that unites us in our responsibility to create healthier futures becomes even more significant. We lean into our opportunity to further protect and care for the health and well-being of our customers, team members, and the communities where we live and work.

At AmerisourceBergen, we are passionate about our role in the healthcare industry to bridge gaps, advance access, and illuminate new pathways to move health forward for human and animal populations. Our purpose-driven work as an industry also shapes our initiatives and compels the use of our collective voice to protect our planet, promote health equity, and break down barriers on our journey to positive social change.

This work is paramount to who we are as an organization, and we’re grateful for the opportunity to share our progress and reinforce our commitments for the future. We are pleased to again offer a more user-friendly approach to Environmental, Social, Governance (ESG) reporting, so we can meet stakeholders where they are. We received positive feedback that our microsite and ESG Reporting Index, which provides detailed information on ESG performance, made it easier to quickly find the relevant information based on stakeholder needs.

As the pandemic continued to unfold in 2021, our inspiration, innovation, and eagerness to achieve our purpose grew even greater. As part of our steadfast commitment to our team members, our Associate Assistance Fund supported over 75 team members who were most severely impacted by COVID-19, the growing number of natural disasters, and those facing personal hardship. The AmerisourceBergen Foundation also continued to focus on health equity, serving underrepresented and vulnerable populations. With this focus in mind, we were especially proud to donate $700,000 to Boys & Girls Clubs of America through the AmerisourceBergen Foundation and support COVID-19 vaccine education and awareness programs in an effort to remove barriers to vital healthcare access. Our businesses play a key role in supporting the health of communities. For example, Alliance Healthcare Norge Apotekdrift AS and Alliance Healthcare Norge AS donated to COVAX in support of its work to distribute vaccines equitably around the world.
We also remain committed to resilient operations that benefit our planet. Alliance Healthcare Spain has been recognized with the award of Best Environmental Initiative in the III Medicine and Environment Awards of SIGRE to distributors and institutions of pharmaceutical distribution for the reduction of the carbon footprint of their vehicles.

While we are proud of our efforts, we know there is more to be done. We will continue to support those most affected by COVID-19 and remain committed to addressing health disparities around the world while strengthening diversity and inclusion both inside and outside of our organization.
I want to thank all our stakeholders and partners for collaborating with us to bring positive change worldwide. I look forward to building upon the progress we have made and continuing to fulfill our promise of strong global sustainability, together.
